YAMASAKI served as Chief Architect and Engineer in the design of the new Qatar National Convention Center which is situated on the 14 million square meter campus of Education City, Qatar. It is surrounded by six world-renowned US university campuses including Weill Cornell, Texas A&M, Carnegie Mellon and Georgetown, the Convention Center is equipped to host a plethora of educational, commercial, cultural and entertainment events.
This architectural showpiece features a stunning tree-like facade symbolizing the Sidra tree. Traditionally, poets, scholars and travelers would gather in the shade of the sidra to exchange knowledge. The tree is an appropriate symbol of the Qatar Foundation.
This facility is the largest convention center in the Middle East. The Center features nine lecture halls, including a 2,500 seat theatre, an exhibition hall and banquet facilities for up to 10,000 occupants collectively.
