YAMASAKI was retained as the design architect for the 382,000 sq. ft. corporate headquarters of Flagstar Bank, the second largest banking institution headquartered in Michigan. The major design challenge was to consolidate the administrative offices into a structure that would promote communication.
The building is a four-story structure that is configured as three separate wings connected by a central atrium. To enhance communication between employees, centralized functions including vertical circulation, cafeteria, conference center, and the lobby are organized around the atrium. The exterior consists of tinted glass windows that allow the natural light to filter in and penetrate the open office design.
